When to go kitesurfing in Mauritius
At PKM, peak season runs June to September (18 to 35 knots). Wind stays rideable most of the year: 10 to 25 knots in April, May, October and November, and still 10 to 25 knots but with fewer windy days from December to March.

Wind, month by month — market data
This more detailed table comes from an aggregation of public wind data for Mauritius, not from PKM. It gives indicative ranges, not a day-by-day forecast, and still needs cross-checking with a PKM instructor before treating it as fully reliable.

How to read this table
The dominant wind is a southeast trade wind, more than 70% of the time.
From June to September, exceeding 25 knots at Le Morne is not unusual.
From November to April, sessions are still possible some weeks, often in the afternoon thanks to the thermal breeze.
Booking 2 to 4 months ahead remains the best way to secure a slot in peak season.
Why Le Morne statistically gets more wind
The Le Morne Brabant mountain acts like a funnel: when the southeast trade wind meets it, it's forced to squeeze around the sides of the massif.
The same volume of air passes through a narrower space, so it speeds up — the venturi effect, the same principle as water jetting out faster from a pinched hose.
In practice, that means 3 to 5 knots more at the Le Morne lagoon than the general forecast given for Mauritius.
What's the best wind direction
Southeast, without hesitation — the dominant trade wind, blowing more than 70% of the time in season.
With a southeast wind, the whole width of the lagoon stays in the wind, and the reef keeps protecting the riding zone.
Wind from other directions is still possible but rarer, and changes the riding zone instructors recommend.
How to read a wind forecast before you come
Look at strength AND direction, never one without the other — 20 knots from the southeast is nothing like 20 knots from the northwest at Le Morne.
Mentally add 3 to 5 knots to Mauritius' general forecast to approach the lagoon's real conditions, because of the venturi effect explained above.
Trust a 3-4 day forecast more than a 10-day one: reliability drops fast beyond 4-5 days, even in peak season.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best season for kitesurfing in Mauritius?
May to October, driven by the southeast trade winds. July and August are the most reliable months, with wind on nearly every day.
Can you kitesurf in Mauritius outside the trade wind season?
Yes, but less often: from November to April the wind is more irregular, with sessions possible some weeks, often driven by the afternoon thermal breeze.
What kite size do you need at Le Morne?
In peak season (July–August) a 7–9 m² kite is enough for most riders. In low season, expect to need 12–14 m².
Why does Le Morne statistically get more wind than the rest of the island?
Because of the venturi effect: the Le Morne Brabant mountain forces the trade wind to squeeze around its sides, accelerating it by 3 to 5 knots compared to Mauritius' general forecast.
What is the best wind direction at Le Morne?
Southeast — the dominant trade wind direction more than 70% of the time in season. It keeps the whole lagoon in the wind while the reef still protects the riding zone.
